Message: Hello Sandeep,

my first idea would be "datapump", but it depends of your available maintenance window (no pun) and size of database... And BTW:
   &nsp; <11.2.0.4>...
Perhaps also the opportunity to upgrade to Oracle 12c?
You might then have a look at Mike Dietrich's blog for various possibilities (he is "Mr. upgrade")

Best regards,

Bruno Vroman.

I took the export from window machine and will import the database.

Database size is approx. 900 Gb. Database has one custom tablespace and multiples of datafiles into this particular tablespace.

Please advise , How I can create the tablespace in solaris so as to have a single datafile only.

Message: Hi Sandeep

Just pre-create the tablespace as "BIGFILE" before importing.

But(!!!!):
Remember that bigfile tablespaces cannot have more than one datafile. You will never be able to add a second datafile.
* If the filesystem cannot be extended anymore, the tablespace will not be able to grow anymore
* If your backups take too long, you won't be able to parallelize the backups
* If one datafile gets corrupt, you'll have to restore the whole 900GB instead of just one datafile

Jan

Is there any other methods in which I can add the datafiles.

Can't we create a tabespace having 30 GB datafile and autoextensible with an unlimited maximum size.

Message: Hi,

Oracle would not add bigfile tablespace feature if what you asked would already be possible. For small file tablespace max file size depends on block size:

8K -> max. file size 32GB
16K -> max. file size 64GB
32K -> max. file size 128GB

Ales

Message: And my advice would be that you stay away from bigfile tablespace -- imho a special feature for special cases (for really, really big db's), and your case is not special.

In your case (~1TB) I would probably go with 16Gb or 32GB datafiles.

Ales

Message: Hi ,
I Imported the database but it took 3 days.
Here I have a concern , Export and Import took lot of time ( 6 Days) even after adding parallel parameter.

Please suggest any other method,which can be fast then datapump for this migration.

Message: Hi,

you can use TTS (transportable tablespace) feature. You'll still need datapump for metadata trasfer and other parts that're not stored in tablespace (PL/SQL stored procedures, views etc.)

https://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/tspaces013.htm#ADMIN11394

If you're moving from x86 to Solaris on Sparc then you'll have to convert tablespace from Little to Big Endian (wait for Mirza, he will post the proper links to articles).

Ales

Message: Check the size of your redo logs - they may be undersized.

Turn Archivelog OFF during the import.

Where is the most significant wait when doing the export? Address that.

Message: Hi,
While exporting full database it took lot of hours (5 Days).

The BLOB table itself (AFM_DOCVERS) is around 850 GB of space in DB So Planning to export the full database by excluding this particular table and want to import it offline after the restore is done.

Please suggest is it doable.If yes how I can achieve it.

Message: Thanks Tim for Asking.

We migrated the database by excluding the blob table and separately perform export/import of that blob table.

expdp FULL=yes directory=CAFMEXPORT dumpfile=Full_1_20170417.dmp logfile=Full_1_20170417.log EXCLUDE=TABLE:"LIKE \'AFM_DOCVERS'"

expdp tables=AFM_DOCVERS directory=CAFMEXPORT dumpfile=AFM_DOCVERS%u.dmp STATUS=300 logfile=AFM_DOCVERS_20170419.log COMPRESSION=all PARALLEL=6

Message: I would suggested check the feasiblity of shrinking candidate blob objects(tables,index) and definately LOB Objects.
I am sure this will reduce your ovrerall database size before migration.
